    Dwell-time computation for stability of switched systems with time delays

    Cataloged from PDF version of article.The aim of this study is to find an improved dwell time that guarantees the stability of switched systems with heterogeneous constant time-delays. Piecewise Lyapunov-Krasovkii functionals are used for each candidate system to investigate the stability of the switched time-delayed system. Under the assumption that each candidate system is stable for small delay values, a sufficient condition for dwell-time that guarantees the asymptotic stability is derived. Numerical examples are given to compare the results with the previously obtained dwell-time bounds. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology 2013

    Direct Observation of Quark-Hadron Duality in the Free Neutron F\u3csub\u3e2\u3c/sub\u3e Structure Function

    Using the recently published data from the BONuS(Barely Off-shell Nucleon Structure) experiment at Jefferson Lab, which utilized a spectator tagging technique to extract the inclusive electron-free neutron scattering cross section, we obtain the first direct observation of quark-hadron duality in the neutron F2 structure function. The data are used to reconstruct the lowest few (N = 2, 4, and 6) moments of F2 in the three prominent nucleon resonance regions, as well as the moments integrated over the entire resonance region. Comparison with moments computed from global parametrizations of parton distribution functions suggest that quark-hadron duality holds locally for the neutron in the second and third resonance regions down to Q2 approximate to 1 GeV2, with violations possibly up to 20% observed in the first resonance region

    Moments of the Proton F2 Structure Function at Low Q2

    The Q^2 dependence of inclusive electron-proton scattering F_2 structure function data in both the nucleon resonance region and the deep inelastic region, at momentum transfers below 5 (GeV/c)^2, is investigated. Moments of F_2 are constructed, down to momentum transfers of Q^2 ~ 0.1 (GeV/c)^2. The second moment is only slowly varying with Q^2 down to Q^2 ~ 1 (GeV/c)^2, which is a reflection of duality. Below Q^2 of 1 (GeV/c)^2, the Q^2 dependence of the moments is predominantly governed by the elastic contribution, whereas the inelastic channels still seem governed by local duality.Comment: 11 page paper, 1 LaTeX file, 10 postscript figure file

    Optimizing low-order controllers for haptic systems under delayed feedback

More precisely, a complete stability analysis of a haptic system where local dynamics are described by some second-order mechanical dynamics is presented. Next, using two optimization techniques (H∞ and stability, margin optimization) an optimal choice for the controller gains is proposed. The derived results are tested on a three degree-of-freedom real-time experimental platform to illustrate the theoretical results. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd

    Comparison of PI Controllers Designed for the Delay Model of TCP/AQM Networks

In order to address this problem in TCP/IP networks, Active Queue Management (AQM) scheme is recommended. AQM aims to minimize the congestion by regulating the average queue size at the routers. To improve upon AQM, recently, several feedback control approaches were proposed. Among these approaches, PI controllers are gaining attention because of their simplicity and ease of implementation. In this paper, by utilizing the fluid-flow model of TCP networks, we study the PI controllers designed for TCP/AQM. We compare these controllers by first analyzing their robustness and fragility. Then, we implement these controllers in ns-2 platform and conduct simulation experiments to compare their performances in terms of queue length. Taken together, our results provide a guideline for choosing a PI controller for AQM given specific performance requirements. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

    A stability condition is derived for cyclic systems with time delayed negative feedback. The result is an extension of the so-called secant condition, which is originally developed for systems without time delays. This extension of the secant condition gives a new local stability condition for a model of GRNs (Gene Regulatory Networks) under negative feedback.     Stability analysis of switched systems using Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals

    Piecewise Lyapunov-Razumikhin functions are previously used for obtaining a lower bound for the dwell time of the switched time delay systems under the assumption that each candidate system is delay dependently stable. In this work, using Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals, a less conservative lower bound for the dwell time is obtained. Improvement in the dwell time is illustrated with an example. © 2011 IFAC

    Perturbative QCD Analysis of Local Duality in a fixed W^2 Framework

    We study the global Q^2 dependence of large x, F_2 nucleon structure function data, with the aim of providing a perturbative-QCD based, quantitative analysis of parton-hadron duality. As opposed to previous analyses at fixed x, we use a framework in fixed W^2. We uncover a breakdown of the twist-4 approximation with a renormalon type improvement at O(1/Q^4) which, by affecting the initial evolution of parton distributions, will have consequences for pQCD analyses also at large x and very large Q^2.Comment: RevTex4, 8 pages, 3 figure
